Visualizing infos
While setting apart some of the thousand files in my “Miscellaneous” directory I came trough an old (2009) article from Chandoo at Chandoo.org on data visualization which I find very interesting (full article at http://chandoo.org/wp/2009/10/09/visualization-lessons-from-eiffel-tower-chartbusters-in-paris).
Having the right informations is a good starting point, but visualizing them in an appealing way is the key for successful presentations.
Essentially the article says:
- Compare with known things in your charts
- Get creative, don’t alwaysfallback on bar / pie charts
- Sometimes just numbers will do
- Focus on the the tower (means objective), not on charts
Good points.
I add mine: be sure to give your chart a final overview with the eyes of those that know little of the subject and see if it is clear.
